I. 40 DAYS
Before David defeated Goliath,
"Each day Goliath would come out and shout a challenge to the Israelites... So choose one man and send him to fight me." All the Israelities were scared of Goliath!
I Samuel 17:16
And the Philistine drew near and presented himself forty days, morning and evening.
II. 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS
Mathew 4:2
Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 Nights.
Exodus 34:28
So he (Moses) was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
I Kings 19:7,8
And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him (Elijah), and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.
III. 40 YEARS
I Kings 2:11
The period that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years
